Market launch for Sappi's Fusion Uncoated Announced

Sappi expands its container board product range and with Fusion Uncoated, offers an uncoated fresh fibre liner in the corrugated board market. With the development of Sappi’s Fusion Uncoated, a fully bleached fresh fibre liner, the specialist paper manufacturer is continuing to expand its product offering for the high-volume corrugated board market. Fusion Uncoated is based on the paper concept for the already very successful Fusion Topliner. In contrast to the double-coated Fusion Topliner, Fusion Uncoated has a natural, uncoated surface.

Valmet to supply key solutions for three containerboard machines in China

Valmet will supply board machine key technology and machine control systems for three new containerboard machines in China. Two of the machines will be producing liner and one will be producing fluting. The start-ups of the machines are scheduled for 2019.

The orders are included in Valmet's fourth quarter of 2017 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed. Typically, a project of this type and scope is valued at EUR 30-40 million.

Smurfit Kappa Mexico has invested USD 62 mio

Smurfit Kappa has recently invested in the thew PM6 machine, which has a production capacity of 100,000 tons of recycled containerboard per year. The machine will operate in the Los Reyes Paper Mill, north of Mexico City.

The investment will enable Smurfit Kappa Mexico to produce high performance containerboard. It produces materials which will strengthen the company’s offering for the agricultural and electrical appliance sectors. 

The investment is also a demonstration of the company’s commitment to Mexico.

Valmet to supply a rebuild for Sappi

Valmet will supply a vast grade conversion rebuild with a wide scope of automation for Sappi Lanaken Mill in Belgium. In the project, the mill's paper machine 8 (PM8) currently producing lightweight coated (LWC) paper grades will be rebuilt to also produce lightweight and high-quality woodfree coated paper grades, which the mill will gradually start producing. The start-up of the rebuilt machine is scheduled for 2019. The project is an EPC delivery (engineering, procurement and construction) with an extensive site operation scope.

CORRUGATED INDUSTRY EXTENDS RECORD OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRESS

The Corrugated Packaging Alliance released a new U.S. corrugated industry life cycle assessment (LCA), which shows the corrugated industry’s environmental progress.
The LCA examined the effects of a 1 kilogram industry-average corrugated product manufactured in 2014 on seven environmental impact indicators global warming potential (greenhouse gas emissions), eutrophication, acidification, smog, ozone depletion, respiratory effects, fossil fuel depletion; and four inventory indicators water use, water consumption, renewable energy demand, and non-renewable energy demand.

Zerhusen Kartonagen opened new plant

The opening of Zerhusen's new 17,000 square meter factory fell on the 6 December 2016. Since the construction went smoothly, the planned start for the spring of 2017 could be preferred. With investment costs of nearly 33 million euros, the company  is now able to produce their own corrugated card board.

Corrugated board industry cost pressure rises

In the first quarter of 2017, the members of the Association of the Corrugated Cardboard Industry (VDW) sold more than 30.2 million square meters of corrugated cardboard more than in the previous year, an increase of 4.4 percent. ZHYDACHIV PULP AND PAPER MILL RESUMES WORK

PJSC Zhydachiv Pulp and Paper Mill in Lviv region, which stalled in autumn of 2014, has resumed work, Lviv Regional State Administration has said on its website.
“Ukraine has seen fewer examples when, after 2.5 years of idle time, an enterprise has not turned into a heap of scrap metal and has resumed work and launched production. Furthermore, over $1 million has been invested in its equipment,” Lviv Regional Governor Oleh Syniutka said at an official event devoted to the re-launch of the enterprise on Friday.
