Packaging company WestRock to buy smaller rival KapStone

WestRock Co agreed to buy smaller rival KapStone Paper and Packaging Corp (KS.N) for about $3.5 billion as it looks to make the most of strong demand for packaging products in a growing U.S. economy and a booming ecommerce market.

WestRock, the No. 2 packaging company behind International Paper (IP.N), last year bought Multi Packaging Solutions International Ltd and sold its division that makes soap dispensers and perfume sprayers to focus on its core paper and packaging businesses.

WestRock Announces Agreements to Acquire Plymouth Packaging

WestRock Company announced that it has entered into agreements to acquire substantially all of the assets of Plymouth Packaging. Plymouth is a corrugated packaging company that derives approximately 70% of its sales from its “Box on Demand” systems and corrugated fanfold, and 30% from traditional corrugated box packaging.

Westrock reveives tax rebate

Gov. John Bel Edwards has recently announced that WestRock Company will be receiving $7.5 million in performance-based tax rebates over five years to help with the company’s upgrades of its facility. 

These rebates are aimed to retaining more than 400 jobs at parish’s largest employer which has a yearly payroll of $28 million. The company has been operating in the area for nearly 90 years now. 

Aside from the rebates, the company is expected to obtain local property tax breaks.

WestRock To Build New Corrugated Packaging Plant In Brazil

WestRock Co. has recently announced that it will be building a new corrugated box plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The construction is expected to begin later this year and be completed in mid-2019.

The investment was made in response to the growing demand from the company’s regional customers in South America.

The new facility will be located in Porto Feliz, and will serve all industry segments and markets.
